Agenda Set for Barbados’ first IDB Retreat of Civil Society Organisations

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has confirmed the agenda for the third Retreat of Caribbean Civil Society Organisations (CSO’s), which takes place in Barbados for the first time at the Hilton Barbados Resort on May 30, and 31.

Over 80 delegates from Barbados, Bahamas, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize and Haiti are expected to attend the Retreat, which is important to the IDB’s goal to strengthen dialogue, and facilitate ongoing consultations with the CSO’s that are pertinent to the Bank’s work in the 26 countries where it operates.

At the top of the Agenda on Day One is the topic, Economic Growth and Opportunities through Public Private Partnerships and Microenterprises in the Caribbean which will be facilitated by a panel including: Roberto Vellutini, Vice President for Countries, IDB, Inder Ruprah, Regional Economic Advisor, IDB’s Caribbean Country Department and Wolde Kristos, Jamaica ConSOC.

Among the other issues to be explored over the two days are: Progress and Challenges for Gender Equality in Latin America and the Caribbean; Development Effectiveness: Results on the ground; Water Security and Services in The Caribbean – IDB Sustainability Report; and IDB Access to Information-Why it should matter to Civil Society.

Delegates will also be given a tour of two IDB projects currently underway in Barbados, the Richard Haynes Boardwalk (BA-L1014 Coastal Risk Assessment and Management Program) and Pelican Village in Bridgetown (BA-M1004 Development of Tourism Micro Projects in Barbados).
